Over the weekend I discovered something that I wish I had paid more attention to prior. Male kittens, (I have only ever had female kittens) will spray if you do not neuter them on time. This was a huge lesson over the weekend as I needed to basically deconstruct my daughter’s bedroom, uncovering layers and layers of junk. The spray had traveled up the curtains that acted as doors to her closet which was filled with piles of clothes, lego, books, broken and unused stuffies and toys.
As usual, I was left pondering what might the lesson be? There was a funky smell happening down in that area of the house for at least 2 days prior to the discovery. So where am I neglectful, where do I avoid taking action when something needs to be addressed quickly and HEAD-ON. Similar to the ever-dreaded itchiness of the scalp that may be a lice infestation: Parents all over the world’s nightmares of laundry and combing and medical shampooing. Another type of issue that can best be addressed swiftly, thoroughly and using due diligence.
What was funny, was that I had found this clip on January 2nd this year, a lovely man speaking about his recent trigger at an event…how he went home and processed, journaled, did a reading, introspected…until he had an “aha” moment where he basically said to himself: ‘here I am allowing the trigger to basically ruin my new years eve and take all of my celebration time away from me.’ He then exclaims: “thats when I thought: BE THE BUFFALO.” And he tells the story which I have corroborated with a small google search, that the Buffalo runs into the storm, rather than away from it:
I had already considered “Be the Buffalo” as a great metaphor for this month, but perhaps it will be a great way to approach 2022 as a year. It is an interesting spin on the love versus fear conversation, leaning into the storm, loving the storm: rather than running from the storm.

Our 2021 Steps to Leadership group has moved from the conscious mind to the subconscious mind in our layers of study. We move to the unconscious after march 20. The layers deepening in the group remind me of the layers of steps I ended up taking for the situation to be resolved:
β cleaning the room
β throwing out damaged items and furniture
β buying the special cleaning spray that deters the kitten from using the same place again
β cleaning and purchasing replacement curtains and drawers, changing the closet and decluttering the clothes
FINALLY:
the ROOT of the issue? π²
β Our kitten has an appointment with the Vet on thursday morning ππ½ππ½ππ½π―
It is that last step that sometimes the hardest one to complete.
Questions for self reflection:
1. Is there an area of life which we are pulling the drapes closed on or over, thereby avoiding the state of the closet?
2. Could there be an old issue or place or relationship in our lives that we have run from, and could use a bit of the “Be the Buffalo” energy?
3. In your life is there a place, time or situation that is so close to fully complete, but that final step is undone?
